First off - here is what I have done whilst watching the video - my thoughts etc and what the video contained.
a) Keyword Research
b) Ranking the videos
Immediately we are into the realms of "known" keyword research here - which in itself requires a certain amount of knowledge on the part of the
viewer. Personally i'm ok on this point, as i've done a lot of research into which keywords to target in the past. If you need to have a moderately detailed look at what I view as
"Keyword Research" - then you can visit that page and have a quick read. But a quick pointer for you as an overview........
Choose keywords which are not overly competetive but retain a strong element of relevance.
Look out for any keyword strings which contain extra words and have worthwhile search volume - these
can be useful (also known as longtail keywords).
With time and experience, you will get a feel of how to do keyword research and should fairly quickly get a grasp of what to look out
for. A couple of projects and you'll be there.
You will notice above that I said "known" keword research - the demonstrator already knows his product at the outset and already knows
what the target phrases are to an extent. There is no deeper research required here which would involve finding out keywords you have never heard of - we are simply looking at some phrases
which we already know are worth chasing and whats out there online already ranking.
The video shows an example of "air conditioner installation nyc" - fair cop - right away I do think this
is a good example to go with - it isn't stupidly easy like trying to rank for a string such as "buying icebergs in a colorado mansion with a brown frog" would be (you'd be surprised at how many
crackpot SEO's actually make claims of their skill alongside junk like that!) and it isn't too hard a word/phrase as to push us into the realms of ultra competetive SEO.
At this point a
tool called "MozBar" is mentioned - I don't have that, and it looks fairly useful as it shows some of the (what I consider a bit speculative) ranking metrics in google, so I downloaded and
Anyway - back on track - the video shows the DA and PA metrics (via MozBar) for the websites listed in the serp for the chosen term. This gives a very very broad view
of the type of strength we are up against if we want to rank for the term.
Without going into any heavy keyword research, we are moved onto another phrase - similar and related. "air
conditioner cleaning nyc"
Basically the video looks down the sites - primarily focussing on DA (as Youtube is 100) - and identifying that with this higher DA ranking the YT video shouldn't
be too much of an issue. I agree.
OK, we have looked at a couple of search strings and seen how other sites are performing in the SERP - we are now moved on to the next stage of
the video, which talks about uploading a video to Youtube. It should be said that you need a youtube account. This in itself is an actual step for me, as whilst I have accounts which
I use commercially in a very very small way, they are not tied to this project. I must now go away and create a youtube account.
It is 11.32am, lets see how long that takes. As I
will need a number to verify it with and naturally I don't have spare telephone numbers knocking around which I can just use willy nilly. This is a pain.
Ok - took about an hour of
faffing about due to the additional requirement of this project being that the account must be phone verified and I needed to provide another separate number. Used the wifes.
This is where it gets more complicated.
The Youtube video is not just a standard case of pressing a button to upload your existing video, its something to do with a WireCast software program
which I know nothing about so will have to learn more. The wirecast program isn't even on a domain of the same name, and you will have to glean the URL from the video for your free download.
I have seen enough of this video now to know I will need to
Find a product
Keyword research it
Produce a video
Shrink it with Handbrake
Load Video to WireCast
Connect Youtube to Wirecast
Stream the Video from Wirecast to Youtube
So initially, I am going to learn how to use Livewire by uploading a short video I have
already sitting on my PC. Just to learn the process which appears a bit long winded.
Ok - the test is done.
I created a video and managed to get the live feed ranking on page
1 for its phrase. Big deal. I could probably do the same with a normal uploaded video on YT.
This project was a total pain. Granted - if you want to do a live show and
have it ranking its ok. But I feel at this stage that the rewards are so small for affiliate programs that I am not going to go away and find a product.
HOWEVER - and this is
important - IF I want to rank a video for a product, in particular if there are videos available for affiliates to use, then this may be an important tool. I am left with the question of
"OK - so my feed was scheduled for 2pm today. What happens to the Google serps when the feed is done? Does the YT entry drop after a short while? I will update.
learning something new, faffiing on a laptop with win 7, downloading new software, getting a feed entry from YT to rank, I don't feel this is much help to me - not right now. About 4 hours
to do - but the next time I do this it would take around 20 mins.
